School
and Library Visits
‘We
all had a great time. Many thanks!’
I love school and library events
just as much as I enjoy writing books. Meeting
and interacting with KS2 children is both a privilege
and a joy, and something I take very seriously.
That’s why I pack my events with fun, interaction
and educational workshops. I want the schools that I visit,
the teachers, librarians and the children to get as much
as possible from having me around, and to learn from my
events too.
Naturally, I talk about what it’s like to be a writer,
and about my books and their characters. But it’s
not all about me.
I also engage with the children; interacting during discussions
and story telling. And I also get them to work with me
too, as we discuss the key main building blocks needed
for any story; Characters, Settings and Challenges.
This is often the best bit, as I challenge the children
to work in groups and create these building blocks themselves.
At the end of these sessions we regroup as one and feedback
to each other, sharing our work.
Igniting and witnessing the imagination and enthusiasm
of the children as they work through the workshop is something
that inspires me greatly. And from the feedback I have
received, it inspires teachers and librarians too.
For slightly younger children, I tailor my events to include
a fun, energetic yet educational game of Rhyming Rugby;
this gets their creative juices flowing and ignites their
competitive verve. It’s great fun!
I’d love to visit your school or library and hopefully
inspire you too. So, if you’d like to book a full
or half day Author event for KS2 children, please get
